Swim in the emerald river. Walk the Samurai Road.
Taste the river fish, and sleep in the mountain spring.
The rooms are old. But what lies beyond the window is real.
Ten minutes on foot from Aterasou. Within a 6.3 km gorge, the story of "Atera Valley in Emerald-Green" silently breathes.
White granite riverbed catches sunlight, and the water glows in a dreamlike blue-green. Locals have long called this color 'Atera Valley in Emerald-Green.' Looking down through the surface, even small pebbles are visible — a clarity that quietly takes one's words away. This is the stream that flows right next to Aterasou.

Senjojo — water threading between great rocks. Inugaeri Pool — looked down from the bridge. Unari Island — a gentle widening of the riverbed. Kumagafuchi, Ushigafuchi. Further along, Rokudan Falls. Beneath the protected forest of Kiso's five sacred trees, the Atera River flows in stillness — beauty existing for no one, simply present.
In summer, drift with a rubber ring, leap from the rocks, or follow fish with goggles. Between light and shadow, the blue keeps shimmering.

About our natural hot spring "Atera Onsen"

We have no master chef, no head cook. Instead of artistry by a trained craftsman, our family-like staff prepare seasonal ingredients of Kiso in the unpretentious way of the countryside.
We add as little as possible to the gifts of nature, and serve what we ourselves find delicious. With minimal use of artificial flavor enhancers and additives, please enjoy a simple, gentle taste.
A few suggested routes — feel free to mix and match.
A short trip from Aterasou — the history and culture of Kisoji along the Nakasendo road, Tsumago, Magome and beyond.

Each season brings a different face — a reason to return.
